What did we visit during our trip to Barcelona?
Sagrada Familia : the giant basilica
The Sagrada Família or Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família in Catalan is a basilica in Barcelona whose construction began in 1882. It is one of the best-known examples of Catalan modernism and an emblematic monument of the city. It is one of Gaudí’s most famous works in Barcelona that should not be finished for a while. The Sagrada Familla is globally recognized and visited by millions of people.
Fun fact : Did you know that the Sagrada Familia will be the tallest building in Barcelona and the tallest church in the world, with its 172 meters high ?
Parque de la Cuitadella : the lungs of Barcelona
The Parc de la Ciutadella is located in the heart of the city, and it is to Barcelona what Central Park is to New York. This large park of approximately 17 hectares forms an oasis of greenery very close to the historic area of Barcelona.
The Parc de la Ciutadella is considered the lung of the city. Many tourists and locals go there to have fun and have a good time with family or friends.
In this park, there is a wide variety of attractions such as the zoo, the lake, sculptures, museums and the fountain designed by Josep Fontsere. The park is an ideal place to practice sports such as cycling or jogging.
We loved this park for its beauty and originality. I advise you to visit it, it’s really beautiful.
Tips : Pay attention to the people who offer you to taste fruit for free because after they will ask you to pay. Also, watch out for pickpockets.
Barri Gòtic : The charming Gothic district
The Gothic district with narrow medieval streets is located in the Ciutat Vella district, in the heart of the city. The Gothic district is home to trendy Catalan bars, nightclubs and restaurants. The Barcelona History Museum presents vestiges of the Roman city. The labyrinthine streets of the Gothic district of Barcelona are ideal for enjoying the city center and to discover its glorious past.
It’s one of the most beautiful areas of Barcelona for me. You can find famous places like the Cathedral of Saint Eulalia, the Cathedral of Barcelona or even the Place Sant Jaume.
Therefore, this district of Barcelona is a real medieval city center, with many small streets. Be careful not to get lost!
Tip : Take your time to admire the settings and buildings. You can take very nice photos!
Tibidabo : an amusement park with breathtaking views
The Tibidabo amusement park opened on October 29, 1901 and has 25 attractions spanning 7 hectares. Considered one of the oldest in the world, this more than 100-year-old park has evolved over time, regularly hosting new attractions.
The journey to the Tibidabo amusement park begins with the Tramvia Blau which takes you halfway up the mountain. If you want to go to the top of the Tibidabo, where the amusement park is located, you will also need to take a funicular. When you are at the top of the mountain, you will be rewarded with amazing views of Barcelona.
A beautiful church “Iglesia del Sagrat Cor” is at the top. This church is sometimes compared to the “Sacré-Coeur” of Paris because they are similar and have the same name.
We really liked this park for its originality and its splendid view over all of Barcelona.
